Three reasons 1. Keep the points 3s and 4s cuts make 10 and 12. 2. 10,Q touching cards in crib (see J) 3. Since 34 is our goal defense in pegging is helpful one of the highest defensive pegging holds here (2 11s count) I think 8 pts in the crib is very possible here. I will play on for those high goes count or 31. dec

I threw the 10 Q hoping the pone would also throw face cards...got a nice cut in lieu of a crummy hand

Must throw the 10-Q and keep the potential double run and also a possible dozen. Cut is handy for crib. Quite a good position for 2nd deal? I'll lead a 4 and play defense.

I cringed a bit because 10-Q is what I like to throw in my opponent's crib. Gotta be agressive here with the pegging because it looks like I'll be short of hole 35. That's cribbage.

Follow the 'small hand' rule. Keep the 4 points. Bob

Not too bad. Tossed the 10-Q. Four is the lead.

There are three reasons to retain 2-4-4-7. These cards have the greatst potential value for count in hand, offer best prospect for pegs, and X-pointers to own crib quite often score well. Why? Opponent is far more likley to toss two X-pointers to your crib than to toss two mid cards or small cards by about three to one. So all of those factors are maximized by tossing those big cards. Even though the cut of the Jack gave me two on the turn-up and makes a run of three in the crib, don't be overly defensive on the pegging.Take what you can. What you know at this point is that you have a four-point hand and a 3-point crib. Want to be in that second street cpz when I have the next deal (43-47).

Playing an Offense strategy the expected averages and Win %'s are:

OFFENSE-----Hand-Pegs-Crib-Total--W8 %---W9 %
2-4-4-7_____6.39+3.30+3.27=12.96__38.5___26.4
4-4-7-10____5.43+2.83+3.54=11.80__36.1___25.3
4-4-7-Q_____5.43+2.85+3.45=11.73__36.0___25.1

Discarding the 10-Q has no competition and is 1.16pts better than 2-Q and several percent better on winning chances.

I will play off to opponent's lead.
