To keep 3-4-7-10 to throw Q-9 not good to me. Lead will be the four have a check play next to cover if paired. dec
Guest says: order of discards running thru some else's mind.1. 3-9 2. Q-10 3. Q-9 . I have seen some people elect Q-10 any of those 18 X-5 connect seriously probably out of the game fast. dec

It pays to flush! Four points to start looks like the best we can do with these cards today. The cut of an 8 gives us to more points.

Got to keep something. Why give up 4 points for nothing?

Sometimes a flush is the best you can do. Lead the 4.

Studied this hand as a moderator for sometime thinking ought to delete it. Then thought perhaps there are those who are so committed to keeping opponent crib down that they might discard 9-Q. Also in live play, players miss the flush in low-scoring hands. So yawned, let the puzzle remain. As a result dan the man gets credit for the first weak puzzle to appear in months. Is there something else here? Will lead the four though occasionally the lead of the 7 elicits the play of a four to make the count 11 with the resultant 15-4. Is there some broader purpose in submitting this puzzle? Thoughts?
Inushtuk1 says: Hi Ras. When I first saw this puzzle, I thought maybe dan was thinking, "Is it worth while to keep the two sets of touchers, and toss (Q-7)?" More cuts for improvement, though most are not very impressive. Better pegging hand. But even that seems like there is nothing to write home about.
Ras2829 says: Aha, bet dan the man missed the flush and is polling this website to see how many folks overlooked the "blush". And 18% did!

My mind is laser focused on the next deal where I get a 24 hand and a 12 crib.

Missed the flush but after cut not too upset.

I see cribbagepogo's play worked out, but I wouldn't toss (3-4) to do it. The flush is not what we call a working flush, but it's all we have. I'll lead the covered 4. But how about the 10 lead? The 10 lead will often flush out a 7 or a 4.The Q lead forces all X-card responses off the play. But the 10 allows the Dealer to play a K. Then our 4-7 Magic Eleven may work for us even though the two card Elevens usually don't for the Pone.
Inushtuk1 says: On second thought it is probably better to play the Q and try for the Go, keeping the 4-7 for the next play series. Thoughts?

Agreed all around. I might consider leading the 7 against some very tight players who I know will never ever pair a lead card when they win the deal. But in 98% of the cases I'll lead the 4.

At 0-0* playing an Offense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:

_______________Our
Offense___Hand_Pegs__Crib_____Total___W9 %___W10 %
4-7-10-Q__5.98+1.48+(-4.62)= 2.84____21.3___21.4
3-4-9-10__2.74+1.63+(-4.39)=(-0.02)___16.1___16.9
3-4-7-10__2.39+1.65+(-4.12)=(-0.08)___15.2___16.5

Offense_______L9 %____L10 %
4-7-10-Q______36.8____52.2
3-4-9-10______37.0____55.5
3-4-7-10______36.5____55.5

The flush is 2.86pts better than the next nearest and is considerably best for Win %s and Loss %s so I'll select the 3-9 to discard.

After the 8 cut I'll lead the 4 and play Offense:

Lead______Our Pegging Pts.
4______________1.43
10_____________1.35
Q______________1.31
7______________1.25
