Yes we do need to peg out . This keep give a variety of ways to possibly peg out 4 and 7 traps. The two 11 counts may come into play to play off here if I can guess what the pone might have after lead. Trying for 3 pegs here. dec

..its going to come down to what the pone leads...his first choice would be something smaller than a five

kept the K in case of a 4 lead. Looking for paint to be led. If mid card led follow with K and hope to work the 3's together, trap the 4, or nail 31.

Where's Jack when you need him? I kept one of everything. Experience tells me this is the way to play it.

This should be interesting. Kept the 3's for possible help.

I was told by a cribbage veteran long ago to keep a variety, but one high card, in a situation like this (to force the count up towards 31). I look forward to seeing what RAS and HAL have to say!

Ditto to King Richard. Though I would add I like to keep a 5 if possible in pegging situations where I need 3 or 4 points. Sometimes, the pone must lead a ten pt card, either in the 1st go around or in the 2nd.

I'm in the minority and it was a tough call whether to hold the 4 different cards or retain the 3-3-5-6 to keep a pair to peg out. I like holding one K since: a) I feel better about an 8 lead and b) their lead of a face will cause me to make the count 15 and if paired, my pushing the count to 30 hopefully will win me the game.

I also like my keep for a 7 lead from pone as well. Good puzzle!

3-5-6-K is best choice to peg out. Reason being that if am unable to pair or 15-2 first card played, need a large card to advance the count and to retain the closely grouped cards of 3-5-6. Needing three, have got to take the first two points offered regardless of the risk. It does not work well to wait and try to get two pegs later. What are chances that opponent will not score five points? About 1 in 9!

Playing an Optimal strategy the dynamic expected averages and Peg Out %'s are:

Optimal---Hand-Pegs-Total-----Peg Out %
3-5-6-K___2.91+1.80=4.72_______39.6
3-3-5-K___3.00+1.26=4.26_______29.2
3-3-5-6___2.83+1.35=4.17_______45.9
5-6-K-K___3.00+0.91=3.91_______25.5

3-3-5-6 give the best chance of pegging out so I'll discard K-K.

I'll play optimally to the lead.

Seems from Halscrib that keeping the two 3's gives the best chance of getting two points and one for the last. Sad to say I pegged just the one having kept the four different cards in real life.

I agree with Ras, King Richard, and Lumbergh on this one. If we were 4 pegs out, I might opt for 3-3-5-6, but being only 3 out, one early pair match or a 15-2, gets us to 120 and if opp doesn't score pairs royal on our pair match, we should have the game won. Good puzzle again Andy.
