The power of Toss (7 8) to our own Crib is enormous. Hessel has Toss (7 8) at 6.58 Points, Colvert places Toss (7 8) at 6.6 Points, Schell puts Toss (7 8) at 6.53 Points, and Rasmussen has Toss (7 8) at 6.44 Points.

Keep (3 3 4 9) will attain anywhere from between Eight Points up to a Dozen Points after Sixteen Cut Cards (2222, 33, 5555, 888, 999), which is 16/46 equals 0.348 and thus it will occur about 35% of the time.

Let's Toss (7 8) today, and 'bust up' the 7-8-9 Run. After the 5 Card Cut, we now have a Dozen Points in our Hand, with prospects for a very good Crib. β˜• 🍩 🌷

A hundred thirteen years ago tomorrow, the Titanic struck an iceberg in the north Atlantic Ocean on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City, United States, and sank the next morning on Monday, 15 April 1912, resulting in the deaths of 1,517 people in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.

The largest passenger steamship in the world at the time, the Titanic was owned by the White Star Line and constructed at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland, UK. After setting sail for New York City on 10 April 1912 with 2,223 people on board, she hit an iceberg four days into the crossing, at 11:40 p.m. on 14 April 1912, and sank at 2:20 a.m. on the morning of 15 April. 🚒 βš“ πŸ₯€

Ten Trillion in losses may be something the very strong American Economy could survive, but the pending damage our nation now endures due to loss of trust and respect, along with the direct blow to the Bond Market, is possibly going to be a fatal wound. It reminds me of that scene in "Titanic" (1997) when J. Bruce Ismay, Chairman of the White Star Line, insisted that, yes indeed, "The Titanic Will Founder." Only in this instance, it's probably more accurate to say that our economy and nation have been wantonly scuttled.

The ship did not sail into the iceberg head on, but rather suffered a glancing blow in a manoeuvre trying to avoid it. Further, the iceberg did not open her plates like a can opener but rather tore them apart in the riveted joints. The Titanic was designed to survive a head on collision that would flood the first four of her water-tight compartments, or a collision from another ship that would ram her in the middle and flood a maximum of two compartments; however, this long opening in the hull was not foreseen, and the crew soon realised that the ship was going to sink. https://youtu.be/SP7BWb1ndpA
Andy (muesli64) says: I gather it is actually China that holds the 'trump' cards.Japan owns more than a trillion dollars of US Treasuries and China not much less.
HfxKen says: Thanks for the Titanic reminder. A lot of Titanic history here in Halifax
Inushtuk1 says: For sure. Spent the better part of my first 17 years on this rock, in Dartmouth, a mile across the harbour.

Today's discard is closer to me than yesterday's, but I agree with JQT for a variety of reasons. After the 5 cut I'm playing offense to the lead.

3-3, 7-8, 7-9? All have advantages and disadvantages. We are short of position and need help. I am an aggressive pegger, so my choice will likely be unpopular.

I like the idea of having points and potential in both hand and crib

Seven combined points prior to the cut, (5+2).
An eleven combo with the 7 and 4.
Lots of helpful cuts, but it isn't immediately clear whether 5h is among them.

Much better luck with Wordle today:

I finally learned to play it this way on all strategies, except for when the Crib doesn't matter. JQT explains it very well at the top of the page. After the excellent cut, and hitting our maximum hand with good prospects in the Crib, it's Offense to the lead. We need to get as far inside 'the 10 yard line' as possible as next Pone.

At 91*-88 playing an Offense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:

_______________Our
Offense___Hand_Pegs_Crib_Total____W2 %____W3 %
3-3-4-9____6.57+3.20+6.46=16.23____24.2____44.9
4-7-8-9____7.11+3.09+5.63=15.83____22.1____43.9
3-3-4-8____8.70+3.37+3.74=15.81____20.8____43.1

Offense_______L2 %____L3 %
3-3-4-9________14.4____44.6
4-7-8-9________14.4____45.9
3-3-4-8________14.4____46.3

3-3-4-9 is best for expected averages by 0.40pt. and is slightly best for Win %s and very slightly lowest for Loss %s. So, I'll select the 7-8 to discard.

After the 5 cut I'll play Defense to the lead.

3,3 has a better chance at getting lucky in the crib IMO. Plus, I prefer the 4,7,8,9 pegging potential over the other choices.
