Going wide today.
Daily Scrimmage 121 to 103 win. Most intriguing hand is Hand 3 which I saw at 39-17. Maybe got bailed out by the favorable cut. Trying to ask myself if hand 6 I played because it's the scrimmage, or because it's what I'd normally do. Attempted defensive pair ends up in 12 against. This should be about a 90 percent hold-we are keeping at the very least a 12 point hand while discarding the 2 safest cards to his crib-not thrilled with the potential pegging peril of 5678 as pone but I like the 8 lead and duck and dodge any land mines that arise HfxKen says: Would a 5 lead, even at this position, be an option? mrob2199 says: I don’t think so Ken-I would go all or nothing with the 8 lead-if he has middles we are in trouble anyways and if he doesn’t I don’t want to give him a quick 2 points HfxKen says: Thanks! |

Great puzzle today.
Keeping the double run is tempting, but with the opponent ahead giving up a 4-5 didn't seem like a good call. |

Positionally (89-95*), we are in an OK spot ... wanted to be at (86-96*). No need to do anything drastic. Keep our safe 12 meld instead of helping Dealer by hoping for a great cut. I might pitch 4-5 further back, but I am not putting a 5 in Dealer's crib here to help him go out in his next three hands. Peg defensively, if possible. |

Ask yourself Ras’s question..” what do you want to have happened after this hand “…for dealing next hand I want to be 97+ & the n/der to be below 111 counting first. The flush starts with 10 & gets cut help from 13/13 cuts …so 101….the 4/8 discard is on Ras’s balk list … 🤞under 111
https://www.cribbage.org/NewSite/tips/rasmussen7.asp Eolus619 says: Extra credit ..a post by Rob M on ACC Facebook asks this question …” Had an interesting hand at grass roots last night-I’m the pone needing 8- dealer needs 4 to peg out-I keep 233K and cut a Q- lead the 3 which dealer matches -I reluctantly trip it so we are both 2 out now-he plays an 8 to make the count 17- do you play your K now to make the count 27 or the 2 to make it 19- give me your reasoning”…there are some very useful/insightful comments..but I post this one from none other than Michael Shell the creator of the cribbage treasure…Cribbage Forum back in the day …” I’m interested in the previous play after 3, 3 (6-2). Tripling dealer gives up five immediate losers. Breaking with the K has only three immediate losers though it leaves us with no out card and no possibility of pegging out ourselves. An interesting tradeoff that I’d be curious to read thoughts on..”
Eolus619 says: the question that most all the commenters were asking themselves …what is the next dealer held card that goes best with his/her already played 3 and 8 ? ryman554 says: Dealer is 4 points out. The answer is the dealer likely has random cards to try to peg, biasing toward small ones, so trying to guess as to what meshes in their hand is likely to fail. Dealer probably doesn't have a pair, and widely spaced cards. Given the choice between k and 2? .throw the king. I put it a 50/50 they have a 2 vs a 4. You know they don't have a 3. You need that go, or better yet 31 for 4. Eolus619 says: Thx ryman554 for your reasons..this is the “point” of Rob’s post…what is your “why” |

Bruce puts it very well. But if there was no flush option, I'd probably toss the (4-5). It's a toss up between the 5, and the 8 lead. |

Tired brain miscounted the popular keep ♦️5-6-7-8♦️. I’d definitely go with flush run especially considering a majority cut for a X. No need to push opponent’s good 4th street position farther down the board with 4-5 to boost the crib. Original quick thought on 6-7-8-8 was to boost my position around hole 105 for average dealer take off next round, but we’re still getting that 12 points with an average X cut.

The opponent is fairly close - only 16 points from getting out and its his crib so I took the chance of ga to gamble on tossing the 4-5 and to keep the double run for 12 points and kept the posibbility of onproving the hand by appropriate cut. By the way with that toss I beat cribbage pro 121-120 orvani says: Sorry my mistake 26 points for getting out but he still in better position than us ryman554 says: Actually, we are likely in a better position from the dealer -- if we can hold the dealer back. They average 26 points per "cycle". So we're 50/50, but if the dealer doesn't win next deal, we are almost certain to. Remember, the count 3 hands to our 1, and unless we pop a 24+ hand, we have no chance in winning on this hand. So, we must try to slow down the dealer as much as possible while at the same time getting us to 105. The 45 toss certainly helps with the 105, but accelerates the dealer. Our flush scores 10, is guaranteed at least 2 more, and slows the crib of the dealer down. That's why you are seeing most comments here proposing the flush. MarktheShark says: orvani, as ryman554 says, we are in a better position than Dealer is. We are 6 holes behind Dealer, but note the board position. We are at 89 and Dealer is at 95. Dealer is 26 holes out, yes, but we can defend to try to hold him back. We will be at 101+ after this hand, needing only 20 more in our next three hands (Dealer hand + Dealer crib + Pone hand). Although anything can happen, the odds are greatly on our side, if we do not help Dealer here. |

At 89-95* playing a SAFE strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:
_________________Dlr's Defense____Hand__Pegs____Crib____Total___W1 %____W2 % 5-6-7-8D____13.70+(-2.93)+(-4.39)=6.38____0.0_____26.2 6-7-8-8_____14.70+(-2.61)+(-7.18)=4.91____0.2_____19.7 Defense_______L1 %____L2 % 5-6-7-8D_______2.7_____43.4 6-7-8-8________6.1_____55.8 5-6-7-8D is better for expected averages by 1.47pts. and is very much better for Win %s and lower for Loss %s. So I'll select the 4-8H to discard. After the QD cut I'll lead the 7 and play Defense; Lead___________Dealer's Pegging Points 7_____________________(-2.30) 6_____________________(-2.43) 8_____________________(-2.52) 5_____________________(-2.97) |
