Resisting temptation to wait around for an 8 cut. Keeping it this way will peg better as dealer, as we keep our magic 11 and could try and trap a pone 5 in the second sequence. I also like the 7-7 to my own crib with hopes we can find some mid cards from our opponent as well. kal79 says: Whoa, I’m first! Good morning ☕️ |

Besides the 8, an Ace cut would generate 12, a 5 would be 10 and a deuce would be 8. So first hand of the game I will hold the 4 points. kal79 says: A 7 cut yields 12 when you keep it this way as well! Jazzselke says: Very good! |

Lots of potential with A677. The other option I considered was to discard A4.
Cribbage Pro Scrimmage 10th Sep 2024 🏆Score: 121 to 115 🌋SP: 1440 📅Streak: 17 https://www.cribbagepro.net/scrimmage/241/3333658/1 A narrow win after 11 deals. Results were very similar today 121-116. james500 says: Hi Penguin, hope you're well. If you remember, what did you do with hand 9? I suspect keeping the run is the better option. I know that Fentesk also plays, so maybe he'll answer too? HaydenSr says: HI all, I discarded 2-6 on hand nine. After the count i was one short in the stink hole with computer 112. I pegged out at 121-115 james500 says: Hi Hayden, thanks for the response. fentesk says: I must do something different in the pegging... We were very similar, I tossed J-8 for hand 5, and 2-6 for hand 9. We ended on hand 10 with me dodging a late loss and holding pone 1 point short 121-120. I was close to pegging out, but they got to show their hand and couldn't quite get there (I tried to peg defensively and only let up 2 instead of trying to push for the win, which thankfully in the this case turned out to be the right decision). There was a hand where I mis-clicked and led a 5 instead of the 9 after a go and led into a 15 I shouldn't have, so it probably should have been 121-118, but then I might have played the last hand in the pegging for the win and risked giving up more so it could be a blessing in disguise. |

I submitted a similar puzzle for later this month, but with a flush. I'm often torn by this hand. Sometimes I toss A-4, sometimes it's 6-X, and sometimes it's 7-7. Today I chose 4-X, but I have little confidence in the choice. Eolus619 says: Scott..nice to have you comment again❗️..and lots of ? on full display today…multiple discard choices and also elite players looking for a favorable cut…which..in the distant past..on ACC tips Ras has advised against doing so ..whew 🤔 |

I never considered tossing 77. Thought the way he Jazzman did.

I really wanted to keep that 6-7-7 together. Keeping the Ace as well gives me 4 points so I’m not sacrificing much. Hope for an 8 cut. |

Either Toss (7 7) or Toss (4 Q) look very playable, but I believe Toss(A 4) is a mistake.
Let's Toss (7 7) today. After the King Cut, we now have Four Points in our Hand, with prospects for an interesting Crib. ☕ 🍩 Wordle 1,179 3/6 (anti-establishment) ⬛⬛⬛🟨🟨 ⬛🟨⬛🟩⬛ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Ras2829 says: Hi JQT: Hard to find those agreeing with my choice this day even though HalscribCLX gives A-4-6-Q a slight edge over A-6-7-7. JQT says: With just Three-Hundredths of a Point difference, I think either Toss (7 7) or Toss (4 Q) are okay; the lesson it seems is to NOT Toss (A 4), which is a Half-Point weaker. |

A,4 to the crib is an automatic 2 more points. We have the 6,7,7,X if we get lucky on the cut. |

I'll look at A-6-7-7 (4-Q), A-4-6-Q (7-7), 6-7-7-Q (A-4) and A-7-7-Q (4-6):
A-6-7-7: 4pts + 3½pts (Schell: 3.59) = 7½pts A-4-6-Q: 2pts + 5¾pts (Schell: 5.92) = 7¾pts 6-7-7-Q: 2pts + 5¼pts (Schell: 5.43) = 7¼pts A-7-7-Q: 4pts + 4pts (Schell: 3.85) = 8pts Potential: A-6-7-7: Improves with AAA, 2222, 5555, 666, 77, 8888, 9999 = 24 cuts = 24/46 = 52.2% up to 8/10/12/16pts with AAA, 2222, 5555, 77, 8888 = 17 cuts. A-4-6-Q: Improves with AAA, 444, 5555, 666, 8888, 9999 + 15xXs = 36 cuts = 36/46 = 78.3% up to 6/8/9pts with AAA, 444, 5555, QQQ = 13 cuts. 6-7-7-Q: Improves with AAA, 2222, 5555, 666, 77, 8888, 9999, QQQ = 27 cuts = 27/46 = 58.7% up to 6/8/12pts with 2222, 5555, 77, 8888 = 14 cuts. A-7-7-Q: Improves with AAA, 444, 5555, 77, 8888, QQQ = 19 cuts = 19/46 = 41.3% up to 8/12pts with AAA, 77, 8888 = 9 cuts. Position: As First Dealer positional hole is at 8pts so I'll play Defense but try to score the average 16pts or more. Pegging: Even playing Defense I think A-4-6-Q will peg best with two low cards, a middle card and a high card plus a 3-card magic eleven. Summary: A-7-7-Q is best for starting value by ¼pt over A-4-6-Q which has the most cuts for improvement and 13 cuts for 6-9pts. A-6-7-7 starts ¼pt lower still and has fewer cuts for improvement but has 17 cuts for 8-16pts. So although A-4-6-Q should peg better as well I think I'll throw the 4-Q. |

At 0*-0 playing a Defense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:
_______________Pone's Defense___Hand_Pegs____Crib_Total___W9 %____W10 % A-4-6-Q____4.52+(-1.91)+5.76=8.37____32.4____45.3 A-6-7-7____7.09+(-2.15)+3.40=8.34____32.1____45.3 6-7-7-Q____4.65+(-2.28)+5.45=7.82____30.9____44.0 A-4-7-7____6.35+(-2.02)+3.10=7.43____28.9____42.8 A-4-7-Q____4.13+(-1.85)+4.85=7.13____28.6____42.1 A-7-7-Q____5.39+(-2.13)+3.74=7.00____27.9____42.5 Defense______L9 %____L10 % A-4-6-Q_______26.7____28.2 A-6-7-7_______25.8____27.8 6-7-7-Q_______26.8____29.4 A-4-7-7_______26.1____30.2 A-4-7-Q_______26.1____30.7 A-7-7-Q_______24.4____29.7 A-4-6-Q is best for expected averages by a very slender 0.03pt. over A-6-7-7 and is also only just best for Win %s by a very narrow margin. A-6-7-7 is very slightly lower for Loss %s so although very clos I'll select 4-Q to discard. After the K cut I'll play Defense to the lead. |

Am a great adherent of positional cribbage and play so from hole zero. Just can't bring myself to play win/loss % from hole 0. At hole 0, considered only combined values (-pegs + hand and crib scores). So, it is goodbye 7-7, retain A-4-6-Q, and avoid pegs. The 3-card magic 11 (A-4-6) is an excellent choice to do just that. Play off the lead. Ras2829 says: Play off lead with this caveat, would score 15-2 on a 9 lead. Pairing the 6 by n/d would make count 21, dealer plays the Queen for 31-2. Willing to give up two pegs to score 4 in that case. Otherwwise will skirt the lead. |

This way on defense for the Magic Eleven. (4-X) on offense. |
