34 toss never works to my own crib. Like my pegging with the A 3 4 10. Maybe pone will drop me a 9K.

My plan is to be aggressive in the pegging depending on lead. X-9 and X-6 possible discards. dec

A PAIR of 9 Cards make for a weaker Crib than Toss (A 4), but I'll still ditch the 9 Cards, as it leaves behind a better Hand. ๐Ÿฌ

Let's Toss (9 9) today. After the 6 Card Cut, we now have Two Points in our Hand, with at least Six Points coming in our Crib.
JQT says: Let's look at just "static" helpers for a unique perspective today. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ These include those Cut Cards that are CERTAIN to help us:
JQT says: After Keep (A 3 4 T) and Toss (9 9) . . . ๐Ÿ‚ ๐Ÿ‚ ๐Ÿ‚ . . . all 46 Cut Cards add at least Two Points, while no Cut Card helps both Hand and Crib with certainty: 23 cuts (333, 7777, 8888, JJJJ, QQQQ, KKKK) add 2 points; 12 cuts (444, 6666, 99, TTT) add 4 points; 4 cuts (5555) add 5 points; 4 cuts (2222) add 6 points; 3 cuts (AAA) add 8 points.
JQT says: After Keep (3 9 9 T) and Toss (A 4) . . . ๐Ÿ‚ ๐Ÿ‚ ๐Ÿ‚ . . . just 42 Cut Cards add at least Two Points, while Four Cut Cards (7777) might add nothing at all, and Five Cut Cards (TTT, JJJJ) help both Hand and Crib with certainty: 4 cuts (7777) add 0 points; 22 cuts (AAA, 2222, 444, 5555, QQQQ, KKKK) add 2 points; 9 cuts (6666, 99, TTT) add 4 points; 7 cuts (333, 8888) add 6 points; 4 cuts (JJJJ) add 8 points.
JQT says: It looks like the SNOW โ›„ โ„โ„โ„ โ›„ is really coming down in Colorado and New Mexico! It's been forty-five years since I first 'crossed over' Raton Pass, while heading south from Colorado into New Mexico, from childhood into adulthood, I suppose. Townes Van Zandt would only live a few more years after this rare recording (only 2000 original copies were made), playing his Gibson SJ-200 "Live at McCabe's Guitar Shop" in Santa Monica, California in February 1995, and it was not released until 2001 or six years later, four years after his death: https://youtu.be/L8zagvBb0-g And perhaps a better recording of it, with his added commentary and a joke, is at: https://youtu.be/3DSubyhPifA You can hear him coughing and struggling to keep himself together; it's interesting to contrast and compare this with his performance of this same song over a decade prior, in 1984 with Blaze Foley, when Townes was still a bit of a wreck: https://youtu.be/3ir4GLUavL8
Assman says: I live in Colorado Springs. I-25 is closed from just south of Pueblo to the NM border in both directions. And CDOT says the worst is coming Friday.

thought about A4 to keep the 9910 together. Decided the 99 might find some friends in the crib. Would like to end up at 95, and that seems unlikely, but offense all the way here.

Iโ€™m keeping the open ended double run possibility with the 9-9-10 and salting the crib with A4- itโ€™s highly likely the cut will improve our hand somewhere-and we donโ€™t have to play for a home run since we are already at 82
Eolus619 says: Morning Robโ€ฆat first look for me, your observation โ€œ itโ€™s highly likely the cut will improve our hand somewhereโ€ is hard to see.. but upon further review, with only a 7 as a loser, indeed 12/13 cuts will help somewhere โ€ฆthe good news is I always learn from your insight..the bad news is I didnโ€™t think of it to begin with ๐Ÿค”

I like the pocket 9s best to our crib today. Rob offers a good alternative above but I prefer the magic 11 and better pegging cards in my hand. If the opponent has 5-X-X-X in their hand, we may be able to score a magic 11 AND trap the 5!

I've started keeping double run possibilities more these days, so I'll do the same in this case.
scottcrib says: With the cut, I'm already at a minimum of 91, so it's defense in the pegging for me.

We are both short of our positional holes (96*-86) with Pone having the better of it. We are not going to make up the difference with this hand, so can we play defense here? The two most obvious pitches are A-4 and 9-9; 9-9 leaves me with better defensive prospects, I hope.
Eolus619 says: Morning Mark..just tagging on to your post ..13/13 cuts help this keep/cribโ€ฆ.at least for meโ€ฆhard to see that at first glance..
MarktheShark says: Agreed, Eolus619, but the cut is likely to help us score only a couple holes, which still leaves us very short of our next positional hole (112) after this deal. Now is the time for pegging defense to try to keep our opponent short of his next positional hole (96), as well. Defense is much more important than cuts here ... at least as I see it. If I wanted to keep the better melding and pegging hand, I would have pitched the A-4 ... but we would still be very short and we might be helping our opponent to get into position.
MarktheShark says: Oops, sorry, the numbers show that 9-9 is slightly better for melding than the A-4, not what I would have guessed. (The 9-9 pitch is also substantially higher than the A-4 pitch per Chambers' crib minimal average.)

No island today! With Rob, Scott and Gary. :) The 5 combo is better in my crib.

I'm in the 9-9 camp.
Goatman mentions 3-4, and I'd be interested to see how that might fare.

Not sure if Iโ€™m on or off the island, I threw A 4 to my crib in hope of lots of points and kept the possible double run in my hand.
(And I am on an island, like every day, thankfully the fog has lifted and planes can get on and off).

"Even if defense is not of prime importance, when studying your six cards and an obvious discard is tough to figure, base your decision on the "Magic Eleven". And a well concealed 5-card trap to boot.

I like the A-4. Need to play defense. Use the 3 to evade their lead.

A-4 for me, but the 9-9 was tempting. Unless they are 5s, I don't like putting pairs in my crib.

Nothing to defend here - move down the board. Cautious offense on the pegging; don't take two to risk six. Given the numbers dealer ought to be at hole 98 with n/d moving down to hole 88/89 with upcoming deal. Position is relative; so positional advantage is with deasler7. Potential hand score and superior pegging of A-3-4-10 seal the deal. Bye-bye 9-9! Would pair a 10 if led since have the Ace to score 31-2 if another X-pointer to follow. Would not pair a small card lead with all singles. Pegging would likely prove more productive by advancing the count with the 10 spot, keeping A-3-4 intact. In hands in which only two points can be retained as dealer, holding the cards of pegging value is often the best way forward. How can one determine pegging value. This simple approach is highly effective: A-5 have high pegging value, 6-7-8-9 have moderate pegging value with the 6-7 more likely to peg rather than the 8-9, Jack has low pegging value, and 10-Q-K have none. Good to see so many making this choice on this day.
