kal79 | A-K, 10-K, or 6-K? Hand I stumbled across in a live game. |

We are the Dealer, just Four Points away from WINNING. But Pone needs only Seven Points to ruin our Thanksgiving and defeat us. 🦃
Toss (T K) or Toss (A K) maximize our Hand, but Pone might simply slither and slide and go out as we stand by helpless. We want to either Peg Out, or DEFEND and survive First Hand Show by Pone. But which tactic is best? 🍬 In order to defend, Toss (8 9), Toss (6 8), or Toss (6 9) might be appropriate, but can we really stop Pone from scoring Seven Points, which is Three Points BELOW Pone Average? It seems unlikely. 😧 Toss (A 6) is perhaps best for us to attempt to peg out, since the higher-ranking cards will most easily reach a Count of Thirty-One and possibly produce a second "go." 😊 Thus, we could prevail after just a single Fifteen-Two or PAIR, if either of these were then followed by a "go" and Last Card; or just one of those things needs to happen following a Jack Cut, which will occur 4/46 equals 0.087 or nearly 9% of the time. 🎲 Let's Toss (A 6) today, and try to peg out! Note this leaves behind the Highest Ranking Four Cards, with the best chance of pegging those final Four Holes. 🍀 After the 6 Card Cut, let's try to either peg Four Holes, or keep Pone from pegging anything at all. I realize that these are seemingly contradictory ideas, but the actual goal of course is to WIN any way that we can! If we can either Cut a Jack, or Score First and with our First Card Played, then we try to peg out; otherwise, we may still try and DEFEND. 🚧 An Example of Successful Pegging is as follows: (5 6 6 T) vs (8 9 T K): 6 (6) 9 (15=2) T (25) "go" 6 (31-2), T (10) 5 (15-2) 8 (23=1), K (10=1), Score (121*-118). 🎈 JQT says: I got up on the wrong side of the RUN today, although playing higher-ranking cards are sometimes good for pegging One Added GO, they will seldom help us when we need Four Holes. 👽 |

"One of the each" as my friend Claude would say. The opponent is too close. Gotta peg out. |

All four points before any cut, but will this peg well? |

I’ve been away for awhile but I’m back now. The site’s graphics have really changed for the better. When did this go down? lonmower says: While you away |

I'm keeping a magic 11 in my hand and the best peggers. As dealer I'm guaranteed 1 peg, now if I can just get 3 more... |

Got to peg this one. I'll try spread cards. Throw 9-10 |

I'll be different today. I decided to try a keep that may be able to flip between offense and defense. I'll get my four points if it gets past first show so the crib toss doesn't matter today.
Sending 9-10 keeps my possible scoring responses on a lead as I'm seeing limited benefit to having two Xs, and don't need both the 9 and 6. This split gives me a wide range to play off if the pegging looks to need to go that way, and the ability to play into a mid-run (for example 7-8-9-6) if non-dealer is desperate for points. This does likely lean more defensive, but I've certainly sat at 114 and not been able to go out enough... |

Crib doesn't matter, keeping lowest and best pegging card. |

No reason to keep melding cards during the end game. Need to keep pegging cards to peg out before Pone counts his hand. So, I am pitching either the 6 or the 9. Will keep the spread rather than the run. |

I just wanted to keep enough points in a mixed hand, so 10 K went to dealer. RubyTuesday says: Oops except that I’m dealer. Probably wouldn’t make any difference though. |

At 117*-114 playing an Optimal strategy for the pegging (cautious offense) the Pone Peg Out %s are:
Optimal____________Pone Peg Out % A-9-10-K_______________20.7 A-8-10-K_______________21.3 A-6-10-K_______________21.4 A-6-9-K________________26.1 A-6-9-10_______________27.3 6-9-10-K_______________27.8 A-8-9-K________________30.2 A-8-9-10_______________30.9 A-6-8-K________________32.3 A-6-8-10_______________33.8 A-6-8-9________________35.5 6-8-10-K_______________35.7 6-8-9-K________________38.6 6-8-9-10_______________41.7 8-9-10-K_______________43.1 A-9-10-K is lowest for Pone Pegging Out but A-8-10-K is only 0.6% higher and scores 2pts in the crib. So I'll select the 6-9 to discard. After the 6 cut I'll play Defense to the lead. fentesk says: Is there a way to see which hand would be selected if the choice was for dealer to peg out? And here, should I read pone peg out % to mean pegging plus hand (so 1-X would pretty much be dealer win %)? MarktheShark says: Agreed, fentesk, very confusing (inaccurate?) description by HalscribCLX. I thought the software included logic to estimate Dealer's pegging values which is of prime importance here, and which should generate a completely different table. |

Thank you all for the comments. I’m in the “peg out” camp today, but am glad to see some dissenting opinion. Learning from different viewpoints is what makes us better, and there is plenty of that from this site :) |

I feel that HAL is wrong today. Our goal is to peg out, and generally that means the 4 lowest cards |
