We had a great hand as Pone for first deal! Can we maintain our advantage? As an aggressive pegger, I would prefer to pitch the Jacks, but not in this position. MarktheShark says: With more than 60 votes in at the moment and 60% of the voters keeping the 6-7 together in their hand, I wonder what the consensus play is if Pone leads an X card? Do you take the 15-2 or do you play defensively with the 6 (as many would at Hand 1) because you stole the good position from your opponent? MarktheShark says: ... keeping the 5-6 (not the 6-7) together. Jazzselke says: My view is as first non-dealer we should still be aggressive after only one hand. Our continued advantage is not guaranteed and the cycle can still turn back to their favor. MarktheShark says: Thanks Jazz (and anyone else who noticed my question). I take the 15-2 because I need 25/26 in two deals ... not the 18 Dealer needs at game start. |

Toss (6 7) does not quite produce our strongest Hand; this would come after Toss (A 7). And yet Toss (J J) gives us the best Pegging Hand, and probably leads to the best balance between Hand and Crib. 🍎
Let's Toss (J J) today, and enjoy getting help from ANY Cut Card. After the 4s Card Cut, we now have Six Points in our Hand, with prospects for an average Crib. 🍍 |

We'll see if I'm right here. I like the 5-6 together. |

Have vacillated on this hand in the past; settled on this hold. Like the prospects in the crib; don't like A7 to keep 56JJ. Throwing the knaves would be my second choice. |

Every cut helps and 2 Johnnies in my crib. |

Pair of Js close but I like the middle card “touchers” in the crib just a bit more. |

6-7 works immediately with 2222,555,666,777,8888 and 9999, (21/46).
J-A eleven or J-5-A sixteen for pegging. |

Tough call. 5s and maybe Js are the exception, but I normally don’t like a pair in my crib. |

If I had a flush I might do a couple of different discards. Here keep the core of a dozen plus cut and possibilities in the crib. dec |

I tend to throw the 6,7 to the crib as a defensive move! So, for me, the J's are better utilized in the crib. Besides, any cut helps this hold. |

I like the sure 6 points, plus middle cards to my crib. Not thrilled with breaking up the pair of Js, and I don't like pairs of non-fives to my crib.
My cut practicing has paid off! At least for my hand.... |

At 19*-18 playing an Offense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:
_______________Our Offense___Hand_Pegs_Crib_Total____W8 %____W9 % A-5-6-7____6.72+4.02+5.10=15.84____46.4____34.3 A-5-J-J____8.30+2.54+4.80=15.64____49.5____39.3 5-6-7-JD___8.11+4.00+3.49=15.60____45.3____33.5 5-6-7-JC___8.07+4.00+3.50=15.57____45.1____33.3 Offense_______L8 %____L9 % A-5-6-7________48.7____45.0 A-5-J-J________45.4____40.7 5-6-7-JD_______48.5____45.8 5-6-7-JC_______48.5____45.9 A-5-6-7 is best for expected averages by 0.20pt. However, A-5-J-J is considerably best for Win %s and lowest for Loss %s so I'll select 6-7 to discard. After the 4 cut I'll play Defense to the lead. |

As I recall, on Offense or Optimal, the correct play is the A-5-6-7(J-J) for expected averages. On Defense A-5-J-J(6-7) is best for expected averages. I did not expect HalsCrib to go with the considerably better Win%'s, and Loss %'s at this early score. I chose Offense as we are +1, and Pone is -16. Inushtuk1 says: Offense to the lead after the cut, as it appears we may be short of 33-34 otherwise. |

6 7 to my crib leaves me with points in hand and gives me a good chance of points in my crib. |

It's early so I will reach for the double and put the pair of Js in my crib. |
