They need 11 we need 10. So defensive eleven gets kept with a pair to the crib. 4+1+2 now need three so I would be on the playing off stage here. dec Eolus619 says: morning dec..your response to a trey or four lead is ? thx dec says: probably the Jack although I am interested in other opinions here. dec Eolus619 says: thx ❗️ Eolus619 says: a btw..i certainly don’t have evidence collected in a way like Ras has in the past , but is seems to me that over 50% of the time ( when I am dealer ) when Pone leads a trey they are doing so from a pair of treys SallyAnn3 says: I am doing it because I have a 2 for the face response. I was taught to lead the higher card of a 2/3 and 4/1 to try to get the 15 for 2 |

A wide spread of cards to help me keep away, plus the 9-2 eleven also. 7-7-9-? seems too bunched up. |

Every card hits my hand or crib. I have a two card magic eleven. |

I'll try it this way. I dont want to engage in any pegging. Play off to everything.
Why exactly did we move DST to the Middle of March? Ugh. RubyTuesday says: We don’t do that until the end of March, I’m feeling jealous. |

During such Endgame Battles in Cribbage, I usually don't fret about Our Points as the Dealer. Today is a very rare exception!
Even after the powerful Toss (2 3), we shall still have Eighteen Cuts (222, 333, 4444, QQQQ, KKKK) that will 'stick us' with a Hand worth just Two or Three Points, which is 18/46 equals 0.391 and will occur about 40% of the time, so even with a Crib of Five Points, we might begin the Next Deal at a score of say (120-119*), having to lead! If this game does incur another deal, our Opponent will be the Dealer, and thus also have the Pegging Advantage. Since all other discards appear even worse for our NET Tally, let's stick our neck out and Toss (2 3) today. Because we're holding HALF of the 7 Cards, that should make this card rank somewhat safe(r) during the pegging. After the King of Clubs Cut, we are indeed 'stuck' with just Two Points, putting ourselves in an almost untenable position of needing to both DEFEND and PEG! Proceed carefully, with SAFETY as our main theme. 🚸 JQT says: After an Ace, 7 Card, or "X" Card Lead, respond with a 7 Card; after a Deuce, Trey, 4 Card, 5 Card, or 6 Card Lead, respond with the 9 Card to 'bust up' potential sequence among our remaining cards; after an 8 Card Lead, respond with the Jack to avoid any Run. 🍡 Eolus619 says: morning John..your response to a trey or four lewd is ? Eolus619 says: whoops reread your post..see your answers JQT says: (111*-110) (2d 3c 7h 7d 9h Jd) Kc: Those 9% who tried (2 3 7 7) might consider: 8 (8) 7 (15=2) 7 (22-2) 7 (29=6) "go" 2 (31=2), We WIN! (121-112), which seems slightly lascivious, if not altogether lewd as well! 🍍 |

2 3 or 7 7 to my crib? I chose the former, in case I need to count my points. |

Normally an easy 2-3 pitch. But, let me survive this endgame by playing defense to prevent Pone from going out this hand. 7-7, 7-9, 9-J? 7-7 seems best. |

Wide spread to defend with, every cut helps hand or crib....7's safer in the crib.

I'm sort of surprised at how the crowd went today. 2,3 to the crib will go quite nicely with the 10,K the pone tossed to my crib as a "defensive" move. |

first post. over the years have learned a lot and thanks to ras jqt horus and the list goes on. my pick today was the 77 to crib. 23 was the tail of the coin. given the hand and board had to rely on the crib and def. want to say that i play dch like i play a friend. cant count that fast and figure %s in a reasonable amount of time to place my crib . by the way what is a reasonable amount of time. thanks bill Eolus619 says: welcome feralba24 to DCH comments..plz keep sharing your reasons...
as to time..players are encouraged to finish a game in 15 minutes.but unless the TD clearly states that limit it can be longer...the ACC has a code of conduct toward new players coming into GR clubs

to moderator. would like to see a first tally to a response to crib within say 30 seconds for first vote. then say reasoning. after that a second reasoning by all means. thank you Eolus for response being a gentlepersons game. my reasons are like the best game to learn your kids. feralba24 says: by the way i paid my kids allowances much to their regret in the winter to engage me. 25/50/100 |

For the defensive Magic Eleven, and 4 different ranks for more variety. These two factors plus a higher average hand, more than make up for the lower Crib potential. Besides, with us holding two of the 7's, Pone may toss (8-K)), or (8-Q). |

At 111*-110 playing an Optimal strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s:
_______________Net Optimal___Hand_Pegs_Crib_Total____Win %___Loss % 2-3-9-J____5.26+0.89+5.89=12.04____57.1____42.9 7-7-9-J____4.11+0.50+6.95=11.55____62.4____37.6 2-3-9-J is better for expected averages by 0.49pt. but 7-7-9-J is considerably better for Win %s and lower for Loss %s. So, I'll decide based on the Win/Loss %s and select 2-3 to discard. After the K cut I'll play Defense to the lead. JQT says: It's interesting to ponder where that higher winning rate for (7 7 9 J) might be coming from today. Pegging a Half-Point more or less doesn't seem as though it would make much difference, and (2 3 9 J) looks like it will result in a stronger Hand by over a Full Point, thus the NET Total of either choice only differs by about a Half-Point, and it's in favor of (2 3 9 J). Therefore, where could the difference(s) between these two ideas exist, and how might it manifest itself? We can probably surmise that if Pone does end up holding a Deuce or a Trey, that will make holding either of these cards on our side of the board more dangerous, whether Pone leads a Small Card or not. But since we were dealt HALF of the 7 Cards, this means that the odds that Pone was dealt a 7 Card are 2/46 while the odds that Pone was dealt a Deuce are 3/46 and once again the odds are 3/46 for a Trey. Those two Small Cards are also High Bias cards in terms of retention (for both pegging and scoring), so Pone would be further inclined to hold them, while a 7 Card is less likely to be retained by Pone and more likely to end up in our Crib. 🍬 JQT says: Pone wants to go out by the completion of This Deal, and Pone's most powerful 'weapon' at Hole 110 is First Hand Show, thus Pone's concern for our Crib will probably be much lower than usual. If Pone is dealt over Ten Points, then Pone will treat our Crib as a "Don't Care," but as the Dealer, we are mainly concerned of those instances in which Pone needs to peg a few, and since Pone might come up 'short,' we've got more than one way to prevail. All of this conspires to make those 7 Cards "SAFE(R)" cards in my opinion during the pegging. If we retain (2 3 9 J) and Pone leads ANY Small Card, we immediately have our hand bisected or "cut in half," since we cannot respond with either of our Small Cards! Holding a PAIR however is not only exploiting the concept of "safety in numbers" (any card rank we have in abundance is less likely to exist in the Opponent's Hand), but it also gives us the ability to PAIR such a card if led by Pone! In addition, if we retain (7 7 9 J), now we can unload a 7 Card from our PAIR after many leads by Pone! Doing so in either case would leave us with a variety of card ranks, but in the earlier case if we retain (2 3 9 J), many leads by Pone will force us to reply with one of our higher-ranking cards, thus leaving us with (2 3 9) or (2 3 J), which would certainly be better if we wished to peg, but given the Relative Scores, those cards are possibly very dangerous, especially at a Count of Twenty-Three or higher! 🍇 JQT says: Conversely, holding (7 9 J) after unloading a 7 Card from our PAIR leaves us with a more comfortable future. The most dangerous scenario with (7 7 9 J) might be after Pone leads an 8 Card, which forces us to respond with a Jack, but in most other cases, after we unload one 7 Card, we will have the (7 9 J) variety remaining, and the main danger will be if we say "go" and Pone can self-PAIR or construct a RUN. But with (7 7 9 J), at least we would not be contributing Small Cards into the "fire" and possibly aiding in our own demise! One could play Cribbage for several decades and never think of (7 7 9 J) as a Defensive Pegging Hand, but when we compare it to (2 3 9 J) and also take the Relative Scores into account, it's probably the safer alternative between these two choices. Any other Thoughts or Ideas? 🍹 feralba24 says: jqt like your thoughts, and cant argue but i see a coin flip Ras2829 says: The two most dangerous card in hand are the lone 2/3. Why not be rid of them? Dealer goal at hole 111 is to avoid pegs. The 7-7-9-J fills that bill.
Most other places on board if choosing offense to include optimal, would discard 7-7. superdow says: Yes, strong defense is critical. Get rid of 2 and 3. Besides no real difference between expected average with 23 and 77 toss... |

Since I'm only keeping two points may as well try for the gut shot. Besides, 2-3 to my crib is never a bad move and almost always worth at least a couple. |
