Its gonna be real close but I do not think the pegging averages can be overtaken by discarding (-2. Being non dealer we should take the potential here. Leading the ten. dec

Seven points are available with 59TJ, but I'll try my luck with 35TJ instead. Too scared to give my opponent 2-3.

Happy Patriots Day.
I hedged tossing the 9-J because 2-3 usually makes a loud BOOM in the other guy's crib.

As Rosemarie44 & Colvert advise when playing as GF n/der...” be bold” from hand #1..Ras has pointed out 3/10 games are lost on first hand ..the max keep 5-9-10-J can be is ten ..2-3 averages 7 across the board ..so following in Gougieoo’s trace today..my hearing is bad enough without experiencing a boom from the dealer’s crib
Gougie00 says: Cribbage ends up being a game of playing it right for 10 deals. Tossing 2-3 and having it result in a 12-crib is an unforced error, in my opinion.
tevdodd says: The max keep is 15, not 10.
Eolus619 says: Hi..I corrected that below with Scott's help thanks

whoops ..5-9-10-J can cut to 14 max
scottcrib says: If I get a cut for 15, I'm going to take it. 😉
Eolus619 says: actually i knew that ..didn’t show it ..but as always you are on top of the countig Scott …❗️thanks

2-3, 2-9, 9-T, 9-J. Several reasonable choices. Need to be aggressive as Pone at game start to attempt to reach our distant position hole (18), but it is too early to pitch a desperate 2-3 and hope for a magic cut. I will keep the two FIVES in my hand for meld potential and pegging.

I’m going to play it conservatively here-keep the 4 points with the safest discard-there is just too much game left to have the first cut of the game be so influential in the outcome

I’ll keep the 7 pts in hand and toss the 23. If it’s a big crib there’s plenty of game to recover. Too many times I’ve seen large early leads disappear by games end.

I don't much like Toss (2 3), and (2 3 5 T) seems best, as this appears to be the best way to 'bust up' the Run. 🎳

Let's Toss (9 J) today, and after the Queen Cut, we now have Eight Points. Let's lead the Trey. 🌾

I despise giving (2 3) to the opponent, but I'm non-dealer and I have to take a few more chances. (2 3 5 T) was a close second.
Assman says: I have ten points in my hand, but pone has points in the crib waiting... Lead the T.

I much prefer the 9-J. While as pone we should be offensive at 0 - 0 throwing 2 - 3 would be one step too far. I have no desire to see dealer kick off with a huge runaway start.

Playing strategy on first street seems to me to be the most intriguing. As Bruce points out strict Colvert can be dangerous. But you also don't want to lose by 3 points playing defensively. Here we can still garner 7-10 points by holding 3510J. So I will opt for a hybrid approach.
Eolus619 says: Dan.. 2-9 is on Ras's approved list for n/der lowest average balking discards AND..see you in Deadwood..thanks for being a TD..

Foot all the way down on the gas pedal today! First street is where you risk it all to get as far up the board as you can. Offense up and defense down is what I call it!

I'm going this way today. The pegging prospects of 5-9-10-J don't thrill me today. Against X-X-X-X or X-X-X-5 I'm looking at 3 pegs leading a 3 [3 - X (13) -
fentesk says: Hmmm... this posted before I was done, so I'll just add that it's not lost on me that choosing the 9-J based on potentially better pegging prospects of 2-3-5-J may be just trying to convince myself not to toss the 2-3.

2-3-5-10, and 5-9-10-J are about the same for pegging prospects for Pone. It's the (2-3) that scares me. No need to lose the game on the first deal. Lead the 10. Keep the 2-3-5 intact.
Inushtuk1 says: I have no argument with those who chose to lead the 3 instead.

I don't care if it's early - I'm not throwing them the 2-3 for just 7 points (8, maybe!)

I prefer to keep the J even given the risk of 9-10 to the crib. Turned out great with the Q. I'm on a bench by myself today. :)
