It would be nice to keep 2-3-3 together, but I can't see how.
3 lead from the 3-3-5 eleven combo.

Starting with Seven Points but giving either Toss (2 3) or Toss (3 3) to our Opponent would be a terrible mistake. Only (3 3 5 7) or (3 3 5 6) can attain Fourteen Points. It's better to begin with Six Points and Toss (2 6). 🌮

Only (3 3 5 7) makes sense. Usually, we debate over ideas that are just tenths of a point apart in NET difference, but here, when we compare our own Gain minus the Crib Value, (3 3 5 7) leads any other choice by at least TWO FULL POINTS! 😱

Let's Toss (2 6) today, all day long. After the Ten "T" Card Cut, we now have Eight Points; let's lead a Trey from our PAIR. 🍷

I must not have been in the right headspace for this one, idk. It seems pretty straight forward this morning.

Call it 5/6 I may have tried to create a word in guess 4.
tevdodd says: I think the question was moreso if with opponent -14 that we feel comfortable taking the risk of a 2-3 toss. I actually like this puzzle more after I thought about it for a second, glad I sent it in.
tevdodd says: Actually more cuts to 12 this way lol ... wow I feel like a noob lately, probably why I'm on a cold streak.

Can often garner a 31 for 2 with the 335 combination.
scottcrib says: Hey Dan, do you make the count 16 or 18 after an X response? Personal preference or are there some good reasons for one or the other?
Jazzselke says: I make it 16; if I play the 5 to 18 they might dump a 5.
scottcrib says: Thank you.

Hoped to keep 233 or 567 somehow, but didn’t see any way to make either of those work.

No need to get too creative here-we are basically looking for the same cuts to help the hand -so no need to throw a dangerous 33 at this juncture of the game—a picture gets us to 8 and as Dan noted the 335 combo is pretty effective at garnering a 31 on the first pegging sequence

Following Rob’s increasingly famous cribbage theorem “ don’t over think this “…discard 2/6..and get cut help from 12/13 ranks
Eolus619 says: extra credit ..Rob M recently posted on ACC facebook a hand he had in a tournament. He asked ..playing as dealer from 96*-101 what discard from a non lush A-2-3-5-10-10…there were varied opinions from some very good players..but I post Mike Schell ( the father of the Cribbage Forum) for educational purposes “ I spent a lot of time analyzing this one back in the day. And based on the data I had then (including Halscrib), although A-5-10-10 contains a 5, it pegs 1 point worse on average than the 3/1 lo-hi A-2-3-10. So even though 2-3 returns more in your crib than 5-10, the two hands perform about the same offensively (and you're in an offensive position at 96*-101) with A-2-3-10 perhaps outperforming the alternative slightly. 2-3-10-10 is clearly inferior to the other two. Would be interesting to see the results of playing this out using modern bots.”
JQT says: At (96*-101) (A 2 3 5 T T), as the Dealer, our position screams to push ahead and peg, so I would Toss (5 T) and try to peg those three Small Cards such that we finish this deal at or beyond Hole 111. We should therefore reply to virtually ANY lead by Pone with our Ten "T" Card, and seek to peg as much as possible with those three Small Cards. However, if we were Pone with this arrangement at such a Relative Score as say (101-96*), I think we would definitely be on our back foot, not wanting to engage in any Pegging Battle, and therefore Toss (2 3) should allow us to put up a better Defensive Stand against a Dealer, and maybe we wind up at a salvageable position. 🌵
Inushtuk1 says: Hi John. Was that a typo? Did you mean (A-2)?
JQT says: Yes, TYPO, as Pone I would Toss (A 2). Toss (2 3) only goes in our own Crib! 🤩

The only real difficulty in discarding from this hand is noticing you can and should break up the run. Not something we always immediately see in play when rushed.

I agree with MarktheShark. The one that is more difficult for me as Pone, is 2-2-3-5-6-7. Here I will on offense at least, keep 3-5-6-7(2-2). Maybe 2-2-5-6(3-7) on Defense. Thoughts anyone?
dec says: Most of the time for me is 2-2-5-6 until I need offense late in the game. dec

Like William Foster, I'm playing D-Fens. No need to give when I can pretty much keep and likely sneak in a 31 for 2 with the 335 combo.
