I like the 10 10 9 together here-a5,8 or J cut gives us 12-14 and the 5 will hit the crib too |

We are the Dealer at the midpoint of this game in a puzzle by the best "Hand of the Day" puzzle composer name ever created, "To be a cat"! Regarding the initial score: This will be like playing a "Short" game of Cribbage as the Initial Dealer with a Six-Point Deficit, and Pone has the advantage! π²
For those of you who have never played "Game in 60 Holes" Cribbage, you really should try it! It hones and develops some very important endgame tactics and skills that help in close Cribbage Endgames, because "Game in 60 Holes" is essentially a mad scramble for the Exit or Finish Line. ππΌββοΈ There's absolutely no time for dilly-dallying in the "Short" game variant of Cribbage! I know Pogo Games used to support an active "Game in 60" variant; I'm not too sure what other Cribbage Sites or Programs support this exciting throwback to Noddy, the predecessor to Cribbage. π In what's become a familiar theme here, do we hold a RUN that begins with Five Points, or do we hold two Fifteens with a PAIR that begins with Six Points? Those of you who know me even a little bit will already know my answer to this pertinent question, but let's go through a bit of the attendant and prerequisite logic. π€ Everyone occasionally gets "Double Run Hypnosis," as RAS used to call it, and it can easily mislead us. What I like to tell players is to imagine their best Cut Card(s), and see what will happen with these Cut Cards BEFORE they perform their discard! π For example, if we get a 5 Card Cut, the (3 4 5 T) will be worth a Dozen Points, and we'll be assured of at least Two Points in the Crib; however, if we hold (5 9 T T), this not only starts with One Point MORE in our Hand, but will also be worth a Dozen Points, and we'll be assured of at least Three Points in our Crib! We're already Two Points AHEAD if we DO NOT retain the RUN! π’ For certain, there will be a few Cut Cards that go the other way, such as a Trey Cut or a 4 Card Cut, but after Toss (3 4), even those outcomes can be powerful in our Crib. If you examine all of the Cut Cards, you will see that a VAST MAJORITY of these favor busting up the RUN! π Let's Toss (3 4) today, because when we're the Dealer, and we deal ourselves a RUN that either begins or ends with a 5 Card, it's often more profitable to "Bust Up That Run"! After the Ace Cut, we now have Eight Points in our Hand, with prospects for a decent Crib. β π© This is a great Cribbage Puzzle, because regardless of whether we play defense, or offense, or optimal, or maybe even BOLD or SAFE, it has one clear answer, and the NET Total is not just better by a few tenths of a point, either, but by a clear margin of at least a HALF POINT. And it contains a very powerful lesson in it as well. Understanding a puzzle such as this will improve your game results! β¨ Wordle 1,469 3/6 (I almost used my Guess Three as my Guess Two, but with only one GREEN after Guess One, I was too timid.) β¬β¬π©β¬β¬ β¬β¬π¨π¨β¬ π©π©π©π©π© tevdodd says: The myleague leagues that utilize gaming safari will go to 61 for their lower bracket of double elimination tournaments. In the Google Play store, is an app simply called, "Cribbage", by a company called, "Goodsoft". (The icon is two Jacks, Spade and Heart). One of the in-game settings allows you to play, the original, 5 card cribbage. As you know, this is first to 61.

As we can see from today's puzzle, the Dealer's Perspective is an important facet of the game, but for some reason, about 75% of the puzzles are Pone-Based. We have all but the last two days of July filled with pending Cribbage Puzzles, and I am happy to report, that after pleading and begging for more Dealer-Based Puzzles, it boosted the level of Dealer-Based Puzzles up to 50%! π |

3-4 is the 28th best discard in terms of average crib value. 29 discards guarantee two points.

One of JQTβs tried and true cribbage axioms fives me the answer today β This is one of those three "Dealer Discard Cousins" or namely, Toss (3 4), Toss (6 7), and Toss (J Q), those Dealer Discards that begin with nothing, and yet end up scoring an Average Crib of around Five Points, which exceeds the value of several High PAIRS such as Toss (K K), Toss (Q Q), and even Toss (T T)β Eolus619 says: actually GIVES not FIVESβ¦PHEW |

Okay I will take a shot at this - and from the looks of the other responses, it seems I may be in the wrong here. I was looking at the 45 being the potential run to hope for while still maximising points with the 10 10 5. What is wrong with this logic...and thanks in advance, I love learining from this group MarktheShark says: Sycophant, if you are hoping for a favorable cut (which we are taught not to, unless we are very desperate), it is better to hope with the 9-T-T double run potential than with the 4-5 single run potential. 9-T-T can grow to an 8-count; 4-5 can grow to a 3- or a 5-count (run + a 15). JQT says: Holding onto (4 5 T T) instead of (5 9 T T) combines a 4 Card with a 5 Card or 4-5 Duo in our Hand for some likely possible gain via a Single Run, but it does so at the huge expense of not only separating a potential Double Run with 9-T-T, but it also substitutes the inferior Toss (3 9) into our Crib for the superior Toss (3 4), at the cost of at least an additional One Point in Crib Value. π§ |

As we were yesterday, we are again dealing short (70) and would like an even bigger hand here. This time, 3-4 is simply the best discard for both crib and hand meld. |

I will toss 3-4 in this position. The Addition method and Ras' Small Hand Rule support this and board this position doesn't indicate otherwise. I think I know this composer! π |

Better hand for pegging, every starter improves it, and a low card can really blow the run up. Connectors in crib could yield something special too |

At 62*-68 playing an Offense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:

So, I'll select the 3-4 to discard. After the A cut I'll play Offense to the lead. Over as many years, I have been trying, with some success, to encourage supporting people and sites, such as C. Liam Brown (at https://cliambrown.com/cribbage) with his Cribbage Discard Tool, who added the Blue Button to "Check another hand ... Daily Hand" in order to facilitate making both sites even more useful for all of us Cribbage Aficionados. I send C. Liam Brown some support every so often (and encourage others to πΎ "follow suit") via the "Buy me a coffee" link on his page, and I was wondering if there is anything we can do to help support your efforts? I've asked this both privately and publicly in the past, and I understand you probably do this due to your devotion to "This Game of Ours" (you're from the 'Strong, Silent Type' generation!) but the offer still stands, and we do appreciate the time and effort you have put in over a sustained period of time. β β β Most sincerely, πΏ - j q t - πΏ |
