Two hands start us off with Four Points today, both (A 4 T Q) and the FLUSH or (3d 4d Td Qd), but there is no way we should retain Four Points and Toss (3 3) to our Opponent! The FLUSH can become a Dozen Points after Two Cuts (2d, 5d), while the (A 4 T Q) idea will "max out" at just Ten Points after Six Cuts (AAA, 444). 👽
It would be difficult to find an idea that is worse than Toss (3 3), and the LAST THING we wish to do in Cribbage is begin a game by 'forking over' our best two cards to our Opponent! Toss (3 3) squanders over Six Points in Crib Value to the Enemy Crib in order to begin with only Four Points, and therefore this discard would be a colossal blunder! 😱 Toss (T Q), however, is an interesting idea, no doubt having us start with just Two Points with (A 3 3 4), but these four Small Cards could grow to become Ten Points after Four Cuts (2222), and Toss (T Q) is a fairly defensive discard, in spite of containing 'gapped' cards. 🎭 In the end, I'm torn between holding the bevy of Small Cards (A 3 3 4) and retaining the FLUSH (3d 4d Td Qd); but we must make a choice, and while it's not quite tantamount to "Sophie's Choice," I'm going to stick with the FLUSH. 😺 Let's Toss (As 3s) today, on this nondescript Last Sunday in the Month of June, as while the days, they already do continue to grow shorter and shorter, almost without notice. After the 6d Cut Card, we now have a Poker Player's Delight: a Five-Card FLUSH worth Five Points in 'This Game of Ours' that we call Cribbage. Let's lead our Ten "T" Card, and maybe our 3-4 duo can later "trap" a 5 Card. 🍬 Wordle 1,471 6/6 (I was told I have Six Guesses, and By Jove, I'm going to use all of them!) ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ ⬛🟩⬛⬛🟨 ⬛🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩⬛⬛🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Eolus619 says: JQT…wordle….for someone who possesses this attribute I am shocked ( as in Casablanca) that it took you six attempts JQT says: After two "All Black" guesses, I really swung for the fences! ⚾ JQT says: As a Pone Discard, Toss (A 3) may seem a bit dangerous, but it is actually a fairly safe choice for a few, perhaps well-disguised reasons. Since the Ace is an "edge" card and since A-3 is a "gapped" duo, the only Three- or Four-Card-RUNs that can be formed with it require a Deuce to make A-2-3 as well as A-2-3-4, respectively. For this reason, it should be noted that Toss (A 3) and Toss (A 2) as Pone Discards have very similar Crib Values 'over the board.' If we now look at Toss (2 4) for a quick comparison, we see a similarly "gapped" duo, but the potential Four-Card-RUNs include not just A-2-3-4, but also 2-3-4-5. But most importantly, we see that Toss (2 4) can become Fifteen with the addition of a SINGLE card, a 9 Card; Toss (A 3) only 'adds up' to a Pip Value of Four, and therefore, IT TAKES THE ADDITION OF AT LEAST TWO CARDS TO MAKE IT EQUAL FIFTEEN! For these reasons, in spite of containing two Even-Numbered Card Ranks, Toss (2 4) is worth about an extra One-Fourth of a Point or more in Crib Value above Toss (A 3) or Toss (A 2) as a Pone Discard. ✨ |

Credit to Bruce for this trivia, A3 is the most frequent discard common to both players.
Cuts of any A,2,3,4,5,8,T,J or Q are helpful, in addition to the 6,7,9 and K of diamonds, 34/46. 34 = 36 - 2 = 34 = (6*6) - (2*1) = 34 = (6*13%) - (2*2%) = 34 = 78% - 4% = 34 = 74% chance of help from the cut. Fewest scoring replies to the 3 lead. Wordle 1,471 5/6 ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ ⬛⬛🟨⬛🟩 ⬛🟩⬛⬛🟩 ⬛🟩⬛🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Eolus619 says: Hi James500..actually credit Ras first and then via me ..it is an interesting stat❗️ |

Not a surprise, the only rank in the deck that doesn't improve this hand. Yes, it's ugly to start, but you have a good chance to open the game pegging 6. tevdodd says: Lead the 4. |

Holding the flush is better by maybe a point in meld, but I am a pegger and I suspect this keep pegs better than that. Will see what HalscribCLX suggests tonight. simon.meth says: This was my #2 choice but could have gone either way :) |

Even outpegging by 14 and holding the bot to 1 in the last round they had just enough to go out with that last 17 point hand to get me 116-121. |

Another educational puzzle from Mr. Early. Thx. If you are a Colvert disciple , playing as games FNDer, no sacrificing actual points to dealer. Tough situation when the flush is worth only four to begin with. The winning cuts are from 9/13 ranks & the six is NOT one of them ❗️❗️ A-3 is a great oddity to me, as it shows up on Ras’s lowest balking discard list as #45 of 46..but it’s on the list & averages under five in dealer crib 🤔 The other oddity is 3-7, @ # 38, it is on the list too.
https://www.cribbage.org/NewSite/tips/rasmussen7.asp Eolus619 says: actually to be totally correct as to cuts..all the remaining cut diamonds add one point ..as is the case today Eolus619 says: We play a game of choices so i respect those who tossed 3-3. But as devil’s advocate i say…you sent a sure two points to start with four in your keep and have winning cuts from 7/13 ranks Eolus619 says: 11/13 pairs across the board average over six points in dealer’s crib

I’m going this way to start the game. Lead with a 3. Eolus619 says: Morning..your choice is fine by me ..did you ask yourself why you were sacrificing two points in your keep to start with ?.. Eolus619 says: maybe you saw that 12/13 cuts added points? Eolus619 says: but then…..a six does not |

At 0-0* playing an Offense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:
_______________Our Offense___Hand_Pegs_Crib____Total___W9 %____W10 % 3-4-10-Q___6.59+1.46+(-4.77)=3.28____22.6____22.3 A-3-3-4____5.61+2.54+(-4.89)=3.26____23.4____21.5 Offense______L9 %____L10 % 3-4-10-Q______36.8____51.3 A-3-3-4_______39.0____52.6 3-4-10-Q is better for expected averages by 0.02pt. and over the two legs it is equal for Win %s but 3-4-10-Q is slightly lower for Loss %s. So, I'll select the A-3S to discard. After the 6D cut I'll lead the 10 and play Offense: Lead__________Our Pegging Points 10___________________1.52 Q____________________1.45 4____________________1.15 3____________________1.14 |
