7-8 was a consideration, but I'll go with the matching 2-3. Every cut helps somewhere, and I have the 3-8 eleven for pegging.

fentesk says: We must be trained similarly, same discards and final score on Scrimmage today, nice work.
tevdodd says: Same discards for everyone, the 2 of you outpegged me somewhere along the way today.
james500 says: Hi both, thanks for the kind words. If I remember tomorrow, I'll also put the score alongside the discard to show where I did/not do well.
tevdodd says: I put them all one day, but thought that was overkill, so now try to cherry pick if I think there's a spot that might be interesting for a potential DCH hand if someone is seeing it at a slightly different score.

Another learning moment perhaps. I like the 789 together and tossing a 23 or 56 in my crib is always my first choice.

(3 7 8 9), which starts off with Five Points, will max out at a Dozen Points after Six Cuts (777, 888), but (2 3 3 9), which starts off with Four Points, will max out at Fourteen Points after Four Cuts (AAAA).

How one decides today's discard decision will probably come down to where a player puts Toss (2 3) in relation to Toss (7 8) as a Dealer Discard. If we look at the charts from a few well-respected sources, we find the following:

After we Toss (2 3) into our own Crib, the various sources have Crib Values as follows: Schell (7.00 Points), Hessel (6.97 Points), Colvert (6.90 Points), Rasmussen (7.13 Points), Rex (6.84 Points), C. Liam (6.90 Points); and then we find that after we Toss (7 8) into our own Crib, the various sources have Crib Values as follows: Schell (6.53 Points), Hessel (6.58 Points), Colvert (6.60 Points), Rasmussen (6.44 Points), Rex (6.42 Points), C. Liam (6.26 Points).

However, if we look further at the two prospective Hands, (3 7 8 9) reaches Eight Points or more after Fifteen Cuts (33, 6666, 777, 888, 999), which is 15/46 equals 0.326 or nearly 33% of the time, while (2 3 3 9) reaches Eight Points or more after a whopping Twenty-Nine Cuts (AAAA, 33, 4444, 999, TTTT, JJJJ, QQQQ, KKKK), which is 29/46 equals 0.630 or around 63% of the time!

Toss (2 3) is indeed a powerful Dealer Discard, but our due diligence has shown us that we should do even better if we retain the Middle-Card Run.

🌹 🌿 🌹

Let's Toss (7 8) today, and try to cut into some Face Card Paint! After the somewhat disappointing 8 Card Cut, we still have just Four Points in our Hand, with prospects however for a very good Crib.

Eolus619 says: JQT…not trying for a gotcha ..but did you get this backwards ?.. “Toss (2 3) is indeed a powerful Dealer Discard, but our due diligence has shown us that we should do even better if we retain the Middle-Card Run” . …shouldn’t it be “do even better if we DO NOT retain the middle card run & keep the lower cards 223 instead ”
JQT says: Yes, I'm missing a DO NOT in there, for sure, good catch. 🎣

2339 helped by all cuts except 5 or 8, but of course an 8 would energize the crib.
Eolus619 says: Hi Dan…A thank you for your time and energy while serving multiple terms on the ACC B of D. As you pointed out, it was time to allow others to step up with different opinions and ideas on how to improve ACC….AND BINGO ..just like that…DCH commenter farleysma is elected & becomes a new ACC Board Member. Congratulations to you both 👏👏👏👏👏

2s 3s is tempting to put in crib, but 78 is a sure 2 and touching middle cards may bring a nice bonus

Rewarded after the cut for taking the safe 5 vs. 4 and still have a 5 in the crib for all of those 10 cards that haven’t yet made their appearance.

7-8 has the edge when holding 2-3-3 and the 9. Change the hand to 2-2-3 instead of 2-3-3 and pitching the powerful 2-3 is typically better.

2/3 to ctib is first choice with a possible double run cut. I never even saw 2339, but still wouldn't have changed my mind.

I have had these six cards frequently enough to have studied the hand and discard. I have been playing it with a 7-8 discard and the 223 as a possible double run. I do see the value of 2-3. However, 7/8 is the way I have been “rolling” ..for now

Step 1 see 2-3 suited. Step 2 evaluate if it's a viable answer. I don't mind if people threw 7-8, but I think the mid-card hold is a little better for our board position here.

Cribbage Pro Scrimmage went CHALK for me today ... to a 116 - 121 LOSS.

At 47*-53 playing a Defense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:

_______________Pone's
Defense___Hand_Pegs____Crib_Total____W5 %____W6 %
2-3-3-9____8.00+(-2.09)+6.42=12.33____27.1____45.6
3D-7-8-9___7.11+(-2.15)+6.84=11.80____24.9____45.1
2-7-8-9____7.24+(-2.09)+5.40=10.55____21.8____41.8
2-3-3-7____8.09+(-2.22)+4.52=10.39____20.6____38.5

Defense_______L5 %____L6 %
2-3-3-9________27.0____34.5
3D-7-8-9_______25.5____34.8
2-7-8-9________24.8____37.6
2-3-3-7________29.6____42.6

2-3-3-9 is best for expected averages by 0.53pt. and is slightly best for Win %s. Although 3D-7-8-9 is lowest for Loss %s I'll still select the 7-8 to discard.

After the 8 cut I'll play Defense to the lead.
Eolus619 says: Hi all you peggers….do you agree that 2239 will get out pegged by two points by n/der?…..seems a stretch to me
tevdodd says: The values presented are solely the pone's pegs with no consideration for how many points we, as dealer, peg in this hand.

I threw 2S 3S for the mini-5 in the crib and the improvements on AAAA, 222, and 33 (you never know!) plus two suited cards for the off chance of the lucky crib flush. Holding 3789 gives you five points in hand, a 3 for the sleeper card of sorts (and maybe the ability to get a go), maybe pegging the opponent on the run, and improvements on 33, 4444, 6666, 777, 888, 999, 10 10 10 10. Cut of the 8 works very well for us. Now all that seemed very sensible to me, but then I read JQT's comment and now I feel like a noob ;-;
Eolus619 says: Hello Synapsid. Welcome to DCH Tossing 2-3 from this arrangement is a viable discard and I am most sure no reason to feel nobbish
tevdodd says: It's ok to disagree with JQT and still be good with your selection. Same goes for Hal and anyone else, many of these presented hands are within a rounding error, but sometimes you're presented a new view.
Synapsid says: Thanks all! I'm learning a lot from everyone's comments. And my cribbage mate is too!
