Keeping the sure 8 and tossing the 5 in the crib. Eolus619 says: Hello..I see in the current CW you are in position for yet another top ten finish for an ecrib online season..ranked #5..well done Gougie00 says: We'll see what happens. I had a hot July. Alot depends on whether everyone else ahead of me do. Gougie00 says: (did) |

I'll try 2-5. The flush is interesting but I fear Q-Q to my crib with J,K and 5 out of circulation may struggle. (You might say the same about 2-5 with J,Q,Q and King out of circulation to be fair). 2-Q in the bronze position I think.
** Cribbage pro spoilers ** 8-9, 9-Q, 5-6, J-Ah, A-7, A-2, A-6(A-7?), Ac-9 was not a winning selection for me. Going to play it rather conventionally today-itโs a pretty doggone good hand with the flush keep as well but I prefer the 25 to the QQ-especially with all the other pictures in my hand |

We are the Dealer sitting One Hole 'shy' of the First Street Par Hole 18 today, so we need to execute an accurate Dealer Discard if we wish to get back-on-track. ๐
It's that age-old (or is it old age?) Cribbage Dilemma: Hold the Double Run, or Hold the FLUSH; Hold the (5 J Q K), or Hold the Mayonnaise! We'll now examine those first two ideas more closely. ๐ง We can reject those last two ideas, because even though (5 J Q K) is a Powerhouse Hand that begins with Nine Points instead of just Eight Points, not much can be said (that will get past the censors) about stuffing Toss (2 Q) into our Crib! "Maybe Pone will Toss (3 3) to us," said nobody, anywhere, ever. ๐ฎ This is a good illustration of why Discarding as the Dealer in Cribbage can be so difficult: As the Dealer, we're seeking a "balance" among our three forces: Pegging, Hand, and Crib. Toss (2 Q), otherwise known as "Crib Poison" or, if you'll allow me to introduce a new term, "Crib-Tonite" and it doesn't pass the test. (Okay, "Crib-Tonite" may sound somewhat silly; but I'll promise that you won't forget it anytime soon!) ๐ If (5 J Q K) were ALSO a FLUSH, then we would most certainly consider holding such a beautiful hand, because it's unlikely that Toss (2 Q) will ever be Four Points WORSE (which is the added value if it were a FLUSH) than any other discard. As RAS frequently tells us, "Consider your Crib as an extension of your hand" . . . and to this, let me add: Consider your Crib like a sandwich sitting in a sack in the sun on a car seat during a hot summer day, and maybe go easy on the mayonnaise. You get the idea: Hold the Mayo, or rather don't Hold the Mayo; but in any case, be careful about putting "mayonnaise" in your Crib! โช Any Double Run is worth at least Eight Points, and here we could begin with those prerequisite Eight Points in our Hand, and a 5 Card headed to our Crib, so I ask you: "What's not to like?" We'll score a minimum of Eleven Points, since the Dealer always pegs at least One Point, and we have Eight Points in Hand, and since any hand with either a 5 Card in it, or cards that 'add up' to Five or Fifteen in it, will always score at least Two Points. We'll get another Point-in-Hand if we cut a Diamond, and/or another Seven or Eight Points-in-Hand if we cut a 5 Card or a Jack, Queen, or King. ๐ The FLUSH of (2d 5d Jd Kd) is also Eight Points prior to the cut, and now we'll get another Two Points-in-Hand if we cut a Diamond (One for the Five-Card FLUSH, and another for Knobs), and all sorts of various kinds of help from every Cut Card except non-Diamond-Suited Aces, 4, 6, 7, and 9 Cards (AsAhAc, 4s4h4c, 6s6h6c, 7s7h7c, 9s9h9c), therefore 46 minus 15, or Thirty-One Cuts or 31/46 equals 0.674 or about 67% of all cuts, will help us! This is why, when all other things look about equal to start with, we usually give a FLUSH idea about One Point more in prospective future value. ๐ Nobody 'bites' (or buys) the FLUSH idea in the first hour of voting today; we'll get some takers by midday! ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ These two ideas, the Double Run and the FLUSH, are actually very close today, and while we can 'spot' a FLUSH an Extra Point, and maybe even consider that the FLUSH will also peg better, it really requires an examination of the Crib here to distinguish these two ideas. Toss (2 5) 'chimes in' at 5.45 Points (Schell), and other than Toss (5 X), which we cannot consider today, Toss (2 5) is our most powerful Dealer Discard, even though we dealt ourselves Four of the Sixteen X Cards. A 5 Card is a Key Connector, and gets helped more than any other card in the deck, and not just by those X Cards. ๐ Toss (Q Q), which 'chimes in' at 4.79 Points (Schell), will always help out our Crib because it contains points, but PAIRS are often NOT the best Dealer Discards, and we can understand why when we examine what other cards will help such an idea (555, QQ), and maybe a Run can form if we get Duo such as T-J or J-K. In fact, what we see here is that the arrangement we just dealt to ourselves contains HALF of the cards that will help an idea like Toss (Q Q)! Maybe now we can see that the PAIR of Queens will be where it ALREADY BELONGS if we retain the Double Run! ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ Let's Toss (2 5) today, and recognize the "harmony" that exists between our Hand and our Crib if we hold the Double Run. After the dismal 7 of Hearts Cut, we still have Eight Points in our Hand, with prospects for a nice Crib. ๐ฑ As an added exercise, try to think of the Pone Discards that would result in us getting just a Two-Point Crib after Toss (2 5) with a 7 Card Cut. A few 'contortions' come to mind, such as Toss (A 4), Toss (3 9), Toss (4 X), and Toss (5 9). Try to think of a few others, and then try to remember the last time your Opponent gave you 'the likes' of ANY of these! And finally, think of the numerous Pone Discards that would 'stick us' with a Two-Point Crib after Toss (Q Q) with a 7 Card Cut. ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ Wordle 1,500 4/6 (maybe I could have had it in Two Guesses, as I incorrectly thought that this word was already used as a previous solution) ๐ฅ ๐ฉโฌ๐จโฌโฌ โฌโฌโฌ๐จโฌ ๐ฉ๐ฉโฌโฌ๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ tevdodd says: Nice job on wordle. Easy mode makes today a lot easier, or if you get the right position on 3-4 early. I got it in 6, but was at risk of some off the wall word being my downfall. (And in hindsight, guess 4 was completely worthless for me) |

Double run and the 2-5 to the crib has a little more upside then holding the flush and tossing the queens IMO. |

so..Q-Q or 2-5? Hard to play for a favorable cut as there are few ranks helpwith either keep & 25% of the โXโs are already seen. The 2-5 is in Rasโs group #2 and the Q-Q is number #28 in his top #30. So I am not hypnotized today โฆ..the 2-5 gets tossed & I have started with a minimum of 11 points ..hand-crib-pegging

I like the eight point flush with the improved pegging options today. At least two points in the crib for a minimum guaranteed total of 10. I will take that at this point in the game. |
