Good reminder that flushes are not always the answer.

I LOVE Hand 7 from 104-82*. (5-8) It does help that the cut came today.

tevdodd says: Thanks Troy. Good to see a different moniker here, hope to see you comment even more going forward.

1. 7-10
2. 7-K
3. 3-9
4. A-7
5. 10-Q
6. A-4
7. 5-8
8. 3-Q

Maybe A-3 instead from hand 8? (A-3-5-6-9-Q)
tevdodd says: What was the score hand 8?
james500 says: Hi. Sorry, I don't remember what the score was. They finished on 105, having held 9-4-2-2 and pegged one in the last hand, which puts them at 105 - (6+1) = 98 at the start of hand 8. I cut a Jack, pegged six, held a six point hand and had three points in the crib, so must have been at least at 121 - (2+6+6+3) = 104 at the start of that hand.
tevdodd says: An alternative thought you didn't mention would be to discard Q5 in this spot.

Half way through with 12 point lead, no time to rest. Keep the 12 points to amp up the pressure.

I mean keep the dozen, right?

But it's a puzzle, so I went and did head math, and I don't think there's a cut that gets us more by holding the flush than we would get with holding the dozen. I think the 3 or 6 gets us one more point.

So the only reason to break this up and hold 8 guaranteed is to make it up in the crib with the 10-5. But we only should count the X cards the pone contributes. I mean, the pone really has to be guaranteed to contribute 1 X cards for this to be even close to net neutral.

Keep the dozen.

What Ryan said. Almost guaranteed to be dealing well into position in the next deal by holding the dozen.

At 54*-42 playing a Defense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:

_________________Pone's
Defense____Hand__Pegs____Crib_Total____W4 %____W5 %
5-5-10-10___13.83+(-2.17)+3.86=15.52____10.0____61.3
4-5D-8-10D___8.98+(-2.33)+6.28=12.93_____5.9____52.9
5H-8-10-10___8.04+(-2.17)+6.37=12.24_____5.4____49.0

Defense_______L4 %____L5 %
5-5-10-10______0.3_____4.1
4-5D-8-10D_____0.4_____5.0
5H-8-10-10_____0.4_____4.6

5-5-10-10 is best for expected averages by 2.59pts. and is very much best for Win % and also slightly lowest for Loss %s. So, I'll select the 4-8 to discard.

After the 4 cut I'll play Offense to the lead.
